The Alliance Strongly Supports the Nomination of Mike Brown

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Alliance for Commercial Technology in Government strongly supports the nomination of Mike Brown as Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment. Brown has done an outstanding job pushing the U.S. Department of Defense to adopt the best commercial technology available for those responsible for defending our country.

“Nominating Mike Brown for this role sends a powerful signal that the Biden-Harris administration is dedicated to getting the best commercial technology, not just buying from the biggest defense contractors,” said Dave Vorland, Executive Director. “The Alliance strongly support his confirmation and look forward to him putting his stamp on government acquisition.”

The Department of Acquisition and Sustainment within the DoD serves a key function in ensuring that state-of-the-art technology is able to be identified and utilized with ease, transparency, and with the taxpayer in mind. DoD’s ability to have an acquisition workforce capable of using all of the tools and authorizations in their toolkit to purchase from startups and non-traditional vendors is essential to the mission of finding and integrating the best technology from the private sector startup, accelerator, venture-backed community. Having a military that is able to adopt the best available technology from the private sector will help keep America safe and serve as a powerful model for all government acquisitions.

“Brown’s experience will be key to breaking down the virtual walls that exist when it comes to acquisitions with the Department and will ensure America’s military can compete in the procurement race that is critical to our national defense,” added Vorland.

The Alliance for Commercial Technology in Government is a non-profit that advocates on behalf of our nation’s innovative technology startups looking to work with the U.S. government. We do this by aligning the voice of our members and advocating for change in federal policy that will make the government market more accessible to the startup and commercial tech ecosystem.
